TalkTalk

Founding member, TalkTalk, understands how important it is to help families feel happy and safe online.
They demonstrated this by becoming the first Internet Provider in the UK to introduce free parental control filters to all of their customers.

What we are doing together

TalkTalk continues to support Internet Matters by raising awareness of online safety for children across all of the work they do. They continue to promote our campaigns including Back to School, Digital Resilience and Vulnerable Children.

Offering advice at the right time

TalkTalk highlights our partnership wherever it’s appropriate for their customers, such as in “welcome booklets” when they join, when they activate parental controls online, as well as placing our logo and website link on their product packaging.

Developing tech and new initiatives

We’ve been part of TalkTalk’s Digital Heroes programme. Creating an award for projects focused on empowering and safeguarding young people online whilst offering practical tools for parents, teachers and careers to use too. By doing this we were able to highlight the fantastic ways technology and people are improving the way everyone engages online.

Utilising controls and tech tools

Today, around 36% of new TalkTalk customers apply their free parental controls, a product called HomeSafe, at the point of sale. This is roughly in line with the number of UK households that have children.

Chief Executive Officer

As a founding member of Internet Matters, we are incredibly proud of what we’ve all achieved so far. Families need consistent and clear advice when it comes to protecting children online, and as we face ever-evolving technological changes, it’s crucial that we all stay one step ahead. Industry collaboration is key for reaching parents at scale and we therefore look forward to welcoming more businesses into the coalition to drive this critical work forward.

Why support Internet Matters

TalkTalk is proud to work collaboratively with others to support Internet Matters to make the online world safer. They are members of a number of online safety councils aimed at supporting policymakers and the wider industry in tackling key online issues affecting children and young people.

These include the UK Council for Internet Safety, the Royal Foundation’s Taskforce on the Prevention of Cyberbullying and the Funding Council of the Internet Watch Foundation.  They are also lending their support to the DCMS and the BBFC in the implementation of age verification legislation.
